Sangh Parivar vows to oppose ‘vilification’ of Hindus

PANIPAT: With some Hindu priests being linked to terrorism, RSS, VHP and BJP on Sunday held a conclave here, denouncing “UPA’s vilification campaign” to “malign” Hindutva and vowed to counter “attacks on Hindu seers and Indian soldiers”.

Coming to the defence of Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur and Lt-Col Srikant Purohit, who have been arrested for the Malegaon blasts, the conclave insisted that Hindus could not be involved in terrorism and alleged that the investigations against them are “inspired by political motives”.

It decided to launch mass mobilisation campaign from November 26 for which a ‘Dharma Sanrakshan Samiti’ (Faith protection group) was proposed to be set up.

The meet significantly saw RSS and VHP changing their earlier stand of not helping BJP in the elections.

The conclave was attended by BJP president Rajnath Singh, RSS chief K C Sudarshan, VHP international president Ashok Singhal, VHP general secretary Praveen Togadia, Sankaracharya of Nirmal Peeth, chief ministers of BJP-ruled Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, among others.

Sudarshan, who launched a personal attack on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over the arrests in the Malegaon blasts, said “the concept of Hindu terrorism is sheer madness as the term Hindu stands for a tolerant and all-inclusive faith.”

Addressing the conclave, Singh said Purohit was being “falsely implicated” by the UPA government in the Samjhauta Express blast.

Hindu saints representing 13 ‘Akharas’ were present at the conclave. They suggested the setting up of a ‘Dharm Sangrakshan Samiti’ to initiate a mass campaign against the UPA government for its “false vilification of Hindu saints and army officers in the name of Hindu terrorism”.

Close to 250 saints from these ‘Akharas’ will launch a mass mobilisation campaign on November 26 at Delhi. The campaign will then tour the country and be a part of the BJP’s campaign against the UPA and its allies till the onset of the Lok Sabha elections next year.

A top-ranking Sangh leader said on condition of anonymity that it has decided to deviate from its earlier resolution taken at Indore three years back which stated that no Sangh outfit will support the BJP in rallying or campaigning for the party in any state or the general elections.

“We stand united now as the UPA and its allies have accused us of Hindu terrorism. This move by the Sangh Parivar to realign with the BJP in their pre-poll effort is an act of self-defence which is required to protect the Hindu faith and counter acts of Islamic terrorism,” he said.
