A Duratma — father of Hindu genocide— I

It is a well known fact of history that although personally Mahatma Gandhi was a devout Hindu, yet he turned more and more anti-Hindu after 1920 as his public life progressed. The driving passion of his political life was to throw the British out of India. In order to achieve this objective, he was obsessed in his conviction that Hindu – Muslim unity was absolutely necessary and indispensable. There can be two views or more on whether he was right or justified in holding these convictions. However, the irrefutable fact is that again and again he demonstrated his combat -readiness to sacrifice or sell out vital Hindu interests, Hindu honour and Hindu blood all the time in deference to the known anti- Hindu feelings of minorities in general and Muslims in particular. To quote the appropriate words of Prafull Goradia in this context: `For Mahatma Gandhi, no price was too great for appeasing Muslims, so that they did not oppose Hindus. That he did not understand the Muslims was proved by the conduct of the Muslim League and by the vivisection of the country.’

I have just finished reading April 2008 issue of Jana Sangh Today, a monthly magazine of the Akhil Bharatiya Jana Sangh in New Delhi. This journal is edited by Prafull Goradia, K.R. Phanda and Ram Gopal. These three editors have devoted this entire issue to highlight the fact that Mahatma Gandhi was a Moulana of Muslim Appeasement and Duratma of Hindu Genocide from 1921 till his death on 30 January 1948. Welfare of Muslims was a cause most dear to his heart. He lived for i – indeed he eventually died for it. Prafull Goradia is a former Member of Parliament and is a prolific writer on Hinduism, Hindutva and Hindu way of life. In 2001 he wrote a brilliant book titled The Saffron Book. It was a great pioneering attempt to feel through the mind and think through the heart the eternal ocean of timeless Hindutva and it is not surprising that this book became very popular both in India and abroad. I often refer to the book for understanding the Hindu ethos. Hindi and Gujarati translations of this book are available. In 2002, Goradia published an explosive book under the title Hindu Masjids. This book deals with the assault of Islam on Hinduism and Hindu temples in India for over a thousand years from 700 AD to 1707 AD. This book offers graphic glimpses of some of the Muslim mosques whose edifices were originally Hindu temples. In 2003 Goradia came out with his third book Muslim League’s Unfinished Agenda which describes how for Mohamed Ali Jinnah the Partition of India was not merely a vivisection but was also supposed to be accompanied by an exchange of population. K R Phanda joined the Indian Economic Service in 1969 after obtaining his M A from the Delhi School of Economics. He was Additional Economic Advisor in the Ministry of Finance in the government of India. He has devoted himself during the last 16 years to the study of Islam and has undertaken intensive research in the field of medieval Indian history. Ram Gopal also retired from the government of India and is known to be a powerful writer on various aspects of pseudo-secularism and Hindutva. The front cover of April 2008 issue of Jana Sangh Today carries the photograph of Mahatma Gandhi at Noakhali in 1946-47. There is a very beautiful headline below this photograph, completely rooted in truth, fair play and natural justice: Gandhi: Father of Muslim Appeasement. In my view the correct and appropriate headline ought to have been Duratma Gandhi: The Father of Hindu Genocide. Between 1 August, 1920 and 30 April 1947, nearly 100,000 Hindus were killed by the Muslims in undivided India on account of Duratma Gandhi’s infatuation for the Muslims and total contempt for the Hindus of India. In the two or three months preceding Partition and four months immediately after Partition on 15 August, 1947, a little over one million Hindus were killed in West and East Pakistan. This drama of Gandhi-directed and Congress- orchestrated Hindu genocide has been beautifully brought out in the editorial of April issue of Jana Sangh Today in the following manner: `In pre-Partition India, the Indian National Congress stood for a united India whereas the Muslim League for division of the country into Hindustan and Pakistan. In order to dissuade the Muslims from insisting on vivisection, Congress party (always) pandered to Muslim demands. The Muslims, however, were not satisfied with the concessions given to them as a minority. In March 1940 at the Lahore session of the Muslim League, the Muslims declared themselves as a nation and asked for Pakistan, a separate homeland for the Indian ummah. Thus was Pakistan born in August 1947. After Independence, the Congress party started playing the politics of Muslim League with the idea of garnering Muslim votes. Initially, the party provided for special rights for Muslims in the Constitution of India. During British rule, the Muslims used to ask for concessions as a minority and the British government would always take the Congress leadership into confidence before agreeing to any Muslim demand. Now the Muslims are again asking for concessions as a minority but with the active connivance of the Congress leadership. As soon as the Congress party came into power in 2004, it set up a number of high powered committees to look into Muslim demands. For the first time, the government also set up a Ministry of Minority Affairs, an euphemism for Muslims. THE MUSLIMS FIRST POLICY announced by the Prime Minister is fully reflected in the Expenditure Budget 2008-2009, volume 2, published by the Ministry of Finance. Against the budget estimate of Rs 500 crore for 2007-2008, and the revised estimate of 350 crore, an amount of Rs. 1000 crore has been provided for 2008-2009. IT IS FOR THE FIRST TIME THAT AN ALLOCATION OF FUNDS HAS BEEN MADE ON THE BASIS OF RELIGION. It is unconstitutional and goes against the judgement of the apex court. Way back in 1951, a seven- judge bench headed by Chief Justice Kania had declared void a notification of the government of Madras which envisaged the appointment of judicial officers on the basis of religion. Apart from this, the proposal of the central government would open up the wounds of Partition. Between 1906 and 1940 Muslims extracted concessions as a minority. In 1940, they declared themselves as a nation and got a separate homeland. How come Muslims are again being treated as a minority? Minority-Nation- Minority syndrome must go. K R Phanda in a seminal article in Jana Sangh Today has described Mahatma Gandhi as a crypto Muslim. In this article he has highlighted the following points relating to the National Muslim Appeasement Programme of Moulana Gandhi. Two tragedies struck the Hindus in recorded history. The first was the establishment of the Muslim rule in India after the defeat of Prithviraj Chauhan in 1192 at the hands of Muhammad Ghori. Since that time, there was always a Sultan/Badshah on the throne of Delhi till 1858 when the last Mughal emperor was deported by the British to Rangoon. The second was the rise of Mahatma Gandhi on the political horizon of India in the second decade of the 20th century. Gandhi taught the Hindus that the erstwhile Muslim invaders were not the enemy of the Hindus. Hindus and Muslim were brothers and had to unite to drive out the British from India. All through his political career, Gandhi pandered to Muslim demands irrespective of the cost which Hindus had to pay as a result of his policies and actions. His obsession for Hindu-Muslim unity knew no limits. Gandhi’s first decisive act of Muslim appeasement was the launching of khilafat movement in India in 1921. The movement aimed at the restoration of Sultan on the throne of Turkey and the Caliphate of all Sunni Islam. As is well known, Turkey was defeated during the first World War. Even otherwise this demand was unjustified as Arabs did not want their countries to remain under the control of the Turkish Sultans. The movement failed as Kemal Mustafa Pasha, President of the Turkish Republic abolished both the Sultanate as well as the Caliphate. The Sultan had to leave Turkey and found his asylum in Europe. In India, however, the khilafat movement led to the killings by the Moplahs of thousands of innocent Hindus in Malabar in Kerala in 1921. Sir C.Sankaran Nair, a Member of the Viceroy’s Executive Council recorded this for posterity: “For sheer brutality on women, I do not remember any other ghastly event in history to match the Malabar rebellion. It broke out on 20th of August, 1921. Even by the 6th of September 1921, the results were dreadful there was complete brakedown of Civil Government resulting in widespread disorder, in political chaos, in Anarchy and in ruin. Lord Reading, The Viceroy said: `A few European and many Hindus have been murdered, communications have been obstructed; government offices burnt and looted and public records have been destroyed. Hindu temples have been sacked and plundered, houses of Europeans and Hindus burnt. According to reliable reports Hindus were forcibly converted to Islam. One of the most fertile tracts of South India is faced with serious famine.’ Gandhi’s infatuation for the Moplahs was total. He reacted to the happenings in Malabar in an article which appeared in Young India of 8 September 1921. He praised the Moplahs in these words: `Moplahs are among the bravest in the land. They are God-fearing. Whilst I was in Calcutta, I had what seemed definite information that there were only three cases of forced conversions…But I don’t think that it seriously interferes with Hindu-Muslim unity.’ Thousands of Hindus were forcibly converted to Islam in Malabar in 1921. Hundreds of Hindu girls and Hindu women were abducted and raped by the Moplahs. Annie Besant went to Malabar and conducted an enquiry into the atrocities committed by the Moplahs. Gandhi remained unshaken because of his boundless love for the barbarous Moplahs. He had nothing but total contempt for the peace- loving Hindus of India.
