PRESS STATEMENT OF Dr Swamy on Congress MP K. Sudhakaran’s comment:
I strongly condemn Congress leader Mr. K. Sudhakaran’s ridiculous defence of Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Mr. P.J.Kurien, the alleged rapist of a Kerala teen aged girl, by stating that no crime was committed in the Suryanelli gang rape because she was a prostitute. Under the Indian Constitution, even a prostitute, assuming for sake of argument she was so, has fundamental rights. The Supreme Court in 1997 in the famous Visakha judgment had categorically held that even if the allegation of this low kind is made in a court trial, a woman has a fundamental right over her body including the right not to be raped. Mr. Sudhakaran’s comment is not only uncivilised, but in keeping with recently revealed Congress leaders’ contempt for women, that is becoming apparent after the President’s son and Congress MP stated that protesting women in December last were “dented and painted”.
