Kota: A Congress leader in Kota district was arrested for allegedly assaulting and raping a woman, who claims to be his ex-wife.
Local Congress leader and District Wakf Committee chief Hashru Pathan was arrested by the Kota police on Saturday night on charges of raping and assaulting a woman.
Later in the day, a local court sent Pathan to judicial custody till October 3.
Following the incident in Kota, Liaqat Ali, Wakf Board chairman in Jaipur, sacked Pathan from the post and appointed Abdul Aziz Ansari new Kota District Wakf Committee chief.
The woman, originally hailing from Uttarakhand, claims that Pathan married her in May 2011, but divorced only three months later in August.
After the divorce, the woman was living at Ashirwad Apartments under Mahavir Nagar Police Station. She alleged that Pathan, at around 10.30 pm on Saturday stormed into her apartment and physically assaulted her, besides committing sexual extremities.
The woman raised an alarm, after which local residents caught them in compromising position and handed over the duo to cops at Mahavir Nagar Police Station.
