Cash-for-votes scam: LS Speaker allows BJP MP Ashok Argal’s prosecution

NEW DELHI: Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar on Friday has given sanction to Delhi Police to prosecute BJP MP Ashok Argal in the 2008 cash-for-votes scam, a police official said on Friday.

“We have got permission from the concerned authority. Now, a chargesheet will be filed,” Ashok Chand, Deputy Commissioner of Delhi Police, told said.

Earlier on Friday, public prosecutor Rajiv Mohan submitted to the court that though they have completed their investigations in some aspects of the case, their overall probe into the scam is not yet complete.

The Delhi Police had, in its first chargesheet, accused Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh and LK Advani’s former aide Sudheendra Kulkarni of “conspiring” and “masterminding” the cast-for-votes scam to bribe some MPs ahead of a confidence vote in Lok Sabha in 2008.

It had also named two former BJP MPs Faggan Singh Kulaste and Mahabir Singh Bhagora along with Sanjeev Saxena, former aide of Amar Singh and Suhail Hindustani, alleged BJP activist, who are in judicial custody. Kulaste, Bhagora along with Argal had brandished wads of notes in the well of the Lok Sabha during the trust vote in 2008.
