THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on Saturday said that the recent developments triggered by Muslim extremist organisations were an experiment to ignite communal sentiments in the state.
“The Popular Front of India which was earlier known as National Development Front is now also known as Social Democratic Party of India. All those who were arrested in connection with the attack on the college lecturer are associated with these outfits.
However, a decision on banning these ogranisations has to be taken by the Centre,” he said.
He said the state police lacked power to probe into the flow and utilisation of foreign funds by various organisations in the state. “As per the statistics available, 1,533 organisations in the state had received Rs 844 crore from various foreign agencies in 2007-08. Since the power to probe into the utilisation of these funds rests with the Centre, the State was helpless. Once the Centre gives us the power, we would act,” Kodiyeri said.
