HYDERABAD: The exhibition grounds reverberated with cow protection slogans, as the Vishwa Mangala Go Grama Yatra reached here today. Hundreds of people from all walks of life thronged the ground where a programme marking the Go Grama Yatra of Paschim Andhra Pradesh was organised.Addressing the gathering, Pujya Sri Abhinavoddhanda Nrusimha Swamy called for the protection of the sacred animal for the benefit of the mankind.“Our traditions say that cow should be respected on par with mother. One should have healthy respect towards gomatha and disrespecting the sacred animal or ignoring the violence against it would lead us to our own doom,’’ he said amidst applause. He urged that everyone should take a pledge to protect cow, which is a motherly figure according to Hindu religion. The speech of Madhava Priya Das Swamy was appreciated by the people who were present on the occasion and with their slogans and cheers they conveyed that they are committed for gosamrakshana (cow protection).Sharing his Gujarat experience, he said: “Many people have misconception that cow is not useful once it grows old as it would not be in a position to give milk. This is not the way to treat the animal,’’ he said and questioned the public saying, “Do we accord the same treatment to our own aging mothers pointing that they are unproductive?’’ He insisted that one should get rid of the materialistic outlook of the world. The main attraction of the meeting proved to be the talk delivered by ISKCON Mayapuri Guru Bhakti Raghava Maharaj, a white man who has been leading the Hindu way of life.Speaking on the occasion, he said that protecting cows and villages would go hand in hand in the crass urbanising trend.Later, a farmer G Nagaraju Naidu was felicitated for his contribution to agriculture in indigenous manner. The meeting was presided over by KP Narasinga Rao in which Justice Eswaraiah was present on the occasion among others.
