Pune, Jan 14 (PTI) She lost her police officer- husband who fell to the bullets of terrorists in the November 26 Mumbai terror attacks. And now Vinita Kamte, who faced the tragedy with fortitude, is angry for a different reason.
Vinita, widow of Additional Police Commissioner Ashok Kamte, who died in the action in front of the Cama Hospital, told PTI in an interview today that her independent inquiries revealed that the lone surviving terrorist Mohammed Ajmal Kasab was incapacitated by the shots fired by her husband.

Stating that this act of bravery, which was not a shoddy response to the dangerous situation, should have been publicly highlighted by Mumbai police, Vinita said the acknowledgement of this came belatedly by Rakesh Maria, heading the probe into the attacks, when she confronted him with her version of the events on November 26 night.

“I wanted Mumbai police to present the sequence of events that claimed the lives of three top officers, including my husband Ashok Kamte, the two other being Hemant Karkare and Vijay Salaskar,” she said.

“This was necessary because speculation was being made to the effect that the three went to the trouble spot at Cama Hospital without any planning and preparation.” Vinita, who is a lawyer by profession, stays in the city with her two children. PTI
